Pastor Dan Malone
Dan studied at the Pennsylvania State University, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Agriculture; focusing on entomology and plant pathology. He has been involved with many of the largest pest control firms in the country.
Dan's first company, Stomp-Em Pest Control, grew to be one of the largest local pest control firms in Broward County until the company was sold in 2001. Dan then spent the next three years studying theology and earned his Master of Divinity degree from the Knox Theological Institute. Dan now serves as an ordained volunteer pastor at the Plantation Community Church.
Dan is firmly focused on training the entire Hedge of Protection staff to grow as professionals in the pest control industry. Most of the time, Dan is in the field meeting with existing and new customers.
David Studied at Florida State University, earning his bachelor of science degree in Accounting. After graduation, David joined Hedge of Protection to learn a service based industry with the intent of managing the operations of the firm inside and outside of the office. He now serves as our operation manager.
David spent his first 3 years in the field learning the skills of pest control service and he stays abreast of these technical skills through in-house training and professional training seminars.
David's formal business training has been instrumental in forming an office staff that focuses on efficent scheduling, and professional customer service. He also enjoys being in the field performing service, and can be scheduled by our service coordinators to visit your home or place of business.
Kim & Liz
Our office staff includes Liz Malone and Kim Daniels. They both have significant office and service coordinating skills, which they use to organize and run our service departments.
Hedge of Protection service coordinators and office staff have the latitude to make service appointments for any of our staff or technicians. They are trained to find the best available time which meets our customer's busy schedules.
They are also continually being trained to answer basic pest control questions which can be given without an on-site inspection. If there is a need to have someone from our staff return a call, the service coordinators will follow up to make certain your needs are met.

All of our technicians are licensed with the state of Florida and recieve on-going training both in the field and in the classroom every month. In addition to in-house training, our technicians are scheduled for industry training meetings and with training schools operated by the University of Florida.
Your technician will always tell you what he or she knows and will eagerly bring in questions from the field for our technical staff to answer when necessary.
We are always ready to come to your home or place of business to provide extra service and make recomendations that will help solve pest problems, just call!
In May and June, our South Florida Landscapes grow aggressively. This quick growth requires your landscape professionals to prune trees and shrubs, and to cut lawns more often. Hedge of Protection has just completed a full round of granular fertilization to your trees, your ornametnal plants (if you have our landscape pest control and fertilization plan), and your lawn. These treatments have been well timed to give your landscape plants all of the nutrients they need for healthy growth into the warm season.
For the next 2 months, we will be making pest control and liquid nutritional treatments to your lawn. These treatments will keep the seasonal pests we anticipate from developing to levels that can cause damage. We are also looking for disease symptoms on your shrubbery to keep them healthy, floral, and lush. We are particularly looking for sucking and chewing insects that commonly appear and cause damage.
When color is a concern, we add granular and liquid fertilizers to correct these conditions. It is important to note that individual ornamental plant leaves which have turned yellow do not always return to a green coloration after fertilization. We always look to the appearance of the new growth as an indicator that the plants are returning to health.

Lawns should be moved at a 10 day frequency, and cut at a mowing height greater than 3.5 inches. Many Lawn care providers set their lawn mower blades to cut grass at lower heights. This action stresses the grass plant and allows for disease organisms like fungus spores and insects to become established and cause damage.
If you are using your own lawn mower, cut the grass using the highest setting of your lawn mower. Also, when using a line trimmer to cut the edges of the home or around trees and in small areas, have the lawn care company cut the grass high in these areas as well. It is very common to see grass mowed down to lower than one inch with a line trimmer. This always leads to a loss of the grass and the emergence of weeds.
This is the rainy season. You should not be watering your lawn with a timer unless it is set for two days per week. If your home has an address with an even number, your watering days are Thursday and Sunday. If your home has an odd number address, your watering days are Wednesday and Saturday. You should have the sprinkler system inspected to be certain it is running efficiently and you should have the timer set to water the lawn between 5:00-8:00AM.
We have designed a care regiment specifically for your fruit trees! Let us see how we can help you get your biggest harvest yet!
Much damage is done to flowering shrubs with a motorized hedge trimmer. You need to have a discussion with your landscape provider, asking them to hand prune flowering shrubs so that flowering buds are kept and vegetative branching is cut.
Mechanical hedge trimming tools are mostly used for convenience and speed. But unless the plant is supposed to be a square hedge, the mechanical trimmers destroy your option for having beautiful flowering plants in your landscape.
Palm Trees should not be pruned hard. The lowest fronds should be kept parallel to the ground. If the palm tree is pruned up higher than this, it stresses the tree and can be the source of disease development.
